1st MUSIC Summer School 2010 successfully finished
From 15th September, 2010 till 17th September, 2010 the first Summer School on “Multiscale and Multiphysics Modeling of Interfaces” was held at the Leibniz Universität Hannover campus.
The Summer School focused on the modeling of multifield problems associated with interfaces and their simulation across multiple length and time scales. Theoretical and computational aspects of adhesion and cohesive fracture, contact and friction at macro and micro scales as well as shape memory effects governed by material interfaces have been addressed by distinguished researchers in these fields both from an engineering as well as a materials science point of view.
In the forefront of the summer school the organizers Dr. Britta Hirschberger and Ilker Temizer, PhD could attract international lecturers to take over an active part at the event.
Olivier Allix, professor at LMT Cachan, France, Marc Geers, professor at Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands, Jean-Francois Molinari, professor at EPFL Lausanne, Switzerland, Stanislaw Stupkiewicz, associate professor at IPPT Warsaw, Poland, and Peter Wriggers, professor at Leibniz University Hannover, Germany, presented a wide range of lectures with interesting topics.
The topics and lectures attracted about 100 attendees from Germany and abroad, who followed the interesting scientific presentations during the three days. The discussions after the lectures and during the coffee breaks deepened the understanding of the contents and gave the attendees the possibility to clarify points of interest directly with the lecturers.
The banquet on Thursday was attended by all participants and lecturers in pleasant atmosphere of the restaurant Bell Air that is located directly opposite to the north-side of the Maschsee and the city of Hannover. Everybody enjoyed the dinner which encouraged networking and thus lead to further contacts.
All attendees confirmed the attractiveness of this summer school, which has been unique and exciting. We hope and are sure to meet all participants again at the next event which is already in it’s planning stage.
