Opening Ceremony of the International Research and Training Group IRTG 1627 aroused great interest
On January, 14th, 2011, the opening ceremony of the International Research Training Group “Virtual Materials and Structures and their Validation” took place at Leibniz Haus Hannover.
The Principal Investigators, amongst them the international partners Prof. Ladeveze and Prof. Allix from ENS Cachan, France, and the PhD-students gave a comprehensive overview over the research area of the IRTG and the research topics which will be treated in the next future.
Prof. Klaus Hulek, Vice President of Leibniz Universität Hannover, welcomed the participants and highlighted the increasing importance of the virtual approach for developing materials and structures and the research that will be performed in the IRTG. He marked the priority the Executive Committee of Leibniz Universität Hannover gives to the framework of the Graduate School MUSIC in which the IRTG is embedded. From Hulek's point of view the IRTG will successfully broaden the findings in its area of research.
The coordinator of the International Research and Training Group, Prof. Peter Wriggers of Leibniz Universität Hannover, decribed the motivation and the concept of the IRTG 1627. Professors Pierre Ladeveze from ENS Cachan gave an interesting overview about the computational mechanics research which actually is performed at LMT Cachan as well as a brief outline about future developments in the area of virtual testing.
Professors Joachim Escher and Udo Nackenhorst as well as Dr. Mirko Schaper (all Leibniz Universität Hannover) informed about their research approach and the possibilities to combine modeling and simulation with validation and testing.
The PhD-students informed about their past career and their aims for their future research work. Being aware of the comprehensive information during the meeting the ceremony was closed with personal talks and discussions that motivated everybody.
